Bijan Yashar is a Bay Area based photography and video artist whose work varies in concept and subject matter. His most recent Catalina Island series is based on found photographs of real estate listings on the island. Yashar allowed the originals to deteriorate over time through sun exposure, resulting in the emulsion's cracked, peeling texture. He then re-photographed and enlarged the images to create haunting and beautiful images. He writes, "We normally associate light with being generative, but it also can be destructive. While light was necessary in creating these images, it is also responsible for their transformation and gradual destruction." Yashar has exhibited widely on the West Coast and teaches digital photography at California College of the Arts in San Francisco and at Berkeley City College.
