13 x 10 inches, collage, 2010
California artist Leigh Wells' Verso’s series are created using components from a single vintage Ikebana book that she found at the public library sale, and an Xacto knife. Well’s cuts tiny patterns/fissures in each book page replacing the open sections with collage areas found from alternate cuts. These ‘impressions’ suggest ghostly remnants and artfully new arrangements much like the artifice of Ikebana itself. Wells lives and works in the Bay Area and her collage and mixed media works are often featured in the New York Times.
